Presidential Scholarships 2009, Saint Louis University, Spain

Saint Louis University is now accepting applications for the Presidential Scholarship from students that will be entering in fall 2010. To apply please read the information below, then click on the application link at the bottom of the page.

The Presidential Scholarship is a four-year, full-tuition award, the recipients of which represent some of the most exemplary student leaders on Saint Louis University’s campus. Each Presidential Scholar is also provided with University funding of up to $1,200 in support of an Investigative Learning Experience (ILEX), which may take the form of a research venture, service project, internship or other extracurricular endeavor of choice.

Presidential Scholarship Eligibility

Students who meet the following minimum requirements are invited to fill out a separate application for Presidential Scholarship candidacy:

Cumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher, weighted or unweighted, as reported on the students high school transcript at the close of junior year
Official test score of at least 30 on the ACT or 1320 (math and critical reading) on the SAT
Only those students who meet these requirements will be considered eligible for candidacy. These criteria are used only for determining eligibility and do not guarantee that the student will be selected either for further competition or as a Presidential Scholarship recipient.

Based on their scholarship applications, a select group of students will be invited to Saint Louis University’s campus in January or February 2010 to interview and compete for the Presidential Scholarship.

Qualifying Test Scores
Test scores from either the ACT or the SAT may serve as qualifiers for Presidential Scholarship candidacy. However, scores from December 2009 test dates are the last that can be used to determine eligibility.

Students who anticipate achieving a qualifying test score during a December test datemust still submit a completed Presidential Scholarship Application by December 1, 2009. Presidential Scholarship applicants who adhere to this deadline and achieve a qualifying test score in the month of December will still be given consideration for Presidential Scholarship candidacy.



Application Requirements
To apply for Presidential Scholarship candidacy, students meeting the initial eligibility requirements must:

Submit a completed Saint Louis University Application for Freshman Admission, including application essay, official transcript, test scores and Secondary School Report Form, postmarked no later than December 1, 2009
Submit a completed Saint Louis University Presidential Scholarship Application, including scholarship essay, resume and two letters of recommendation,postmarked no later than December 1, 2009
The Presidential Scholarship Application will be available for online submission. Students will be notified via e-mail confirmation as their Presidential Scholarship Applications are received.

Students who apply for the Presidential Scholarship should do so under the assumption that, if awarded, the scholarship will replace any offer for merit-based scholarship previously made by the university. Please note that the Jesuit High School Award and the Family Award cannot be combined with the Presidential Scholarship.

Essay, Resume and Letters of Recommendation
Presidential Scholarship applicants must submit a scholarship essay, resume and two letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation should provide specific insight into the applicant’s personality and/or distinguishing characteristics.

Any letters of recommendation that were previously included with the student’s Application for Freshman Admission will fulfill this requirement.

Applicants must upload copies of their scholarship essay and resume as a part of their online Presidential Scholarship Application in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF format.

The essay must be a written response of no more than two typed, double spaced pages to the Presidential Scholarship essay question listed below:

Nearly all of our Presidential Scholarship applicants demonstrate significant involvement in extracurricular activities and have achieved recognition on a variety of levels. Bearing that in mind, please discuss what defining characteristic, distinguished accomplishment or particular aspiration identifies you as a deserving candidate for SLU’s Presidential Scholarship. In identifying this unique attribute, please also describe how Saint Louis University in particular complements your ambitions and/or character.
